Opening Blessing

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” - John 1:1-5

Heavenly Father, who watches over me,

Christ Jesus, my Lord and brother, who walks beside me,

Holy Spirit, my captain, who lives within me,

You are great and worthy,

You, the Creator who breathed the universe and life into existence,

You, who created us simply to love us,

Abba, father, and Jesus, brother.

If it is your will,

Bless this blog,

That it be a vessel for your Word,

That you use my imperfections for your good will and purpose.

May the words I write here

Be inspired by your Word

So that they bear good fruit

And spread your word

And grow the faith

And grow your kingdom

For your glory

And our redemption

From darkness

Into your eternal light.

Bless our nation,

This Tower of Babel.

May we recenter our lives on you

May we regain our founding values

May we rediscover our common language

And, may we deploy discernment in electing our civic leaders.

Bless our leaders with wisdom and courage

Such that they forgo their own power and glory

For the betterment of the people

That they pursue the people’s good with passion and humility.

Let us be good to each other.

Let us listen to each other.

Let us respect each other.

Let us have the courage to look each other in the eye.

And, let us understand that we may debate fiercely with each other,

But, we are still brothers and sisters of one nation

Under God,

Indivisible.

Bless our husbands and wives

Our fathers and mothers

That they love each other

Beyond emotion, but in action

For they are the heart of our nation

In the home, as they raise their children,

And, in our society as the workers and leaders of our cities, states and businesses.

May they raise their children

To know and love you,

To know our history and love our country,

And to feel a civic duty.

Bless our youth

For they are the future

And they inherit the world my generation leaves behind.

May they become astute and judicious regents.

May my prayer align with your will

For love of your people

For love of your creation

For your glory

And our eternal peace.

AMEN.
